HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers day as I did, my wonderful little son Julian (5yrs old) made me a beautiful card in scripted "I love mommy" with his hand print inside. For all those moms who've had this wonderful experience of getting a homemade card from your child you know, there is nothing like it in the world! My wonderful husband and my little guy gave me a much wanted gift, a new 50mm portrait lens for my camera! The image of Julian to the left is my first shot with my new lens! For Mothers Day my husband Ryan and I took our son and his grandmother's, mom and other family members to The Getty Museum.
It was a beautiful day and it was great seeing the many new exhibits there such as Jean-Baptiste Oudry's Painted Menagerie which was Julian's favorite exhibit, Radiant Darkness: The Art of Nocturnal Light stunning chalk work paintings from various artists and my favorite The Old Order and the New: P. H. Emerson and Photography, from 1885-1895. One of the exciting things for me that day was being able to see photographer Luther Gerlach demonstrate how to make platinum prints using his own 19th century equipment! His work is amazing and I love learning the technique that he uses! Seeing him work with his hands reminds me of how much fun I used to have in the dark room! I might have to play around in the dark room some day in the future, keeping up with the latest digital technology is something we all are doing, but I definitely want to remember how photography all started and retain the information I know for future generations. To see some of his work please visit http://www.thescreamonline.com/photo/photo5-1/gerlach/gallery.html He will be at the LA Getty Museum again on May 17th for those of you who would like to attend the free demonstration. He is holding a private art gallery exhibit at his studio June 2nd which I am planning to attend.
